After a year of traveling, Corwyn is on his way back to Cyria Fel. While staying at a roadside inn near Westmark, he overhears a messenger on his way to the Earl of Heer; the messenger reports that Sir Justin Ves, the “Ariel Knight” (Corwyn’s cousin and former lover), apparently murdered his father-in-law, the Earl of Rosemont, and is now awaiting execution. Corwyn vows to save his cousin, and travels to Rosemont.
